Mississippi Braves on The Move

Twenty years afer moving from Greenville, SC to Pearl, MS, the Atlanta Braves’ AA farm team will leave Pearl for a new location. In 2025, the Mississippi Braves will start a new tenure in Columbus, GA.

Through their Instagram account, the M-Braves announced they will move to Columbus after the 2024 season.

The Braves are moving from one of the worst drawing cities in the Southern League to Columbus, GA, a town that lost its former MiLB club, the Columbus Catfish to Bowling Green, KY, where they became the HotRods. But Columbus lost several other teams as well before the Catfish left town. The Columbus Astros and Columbus Mudcats played there from 1969 to 1990. From 1991-2002, Columbus was home to the Indians’ Class A team of the South Atlantic League, originally called the Columbus Indians before being renamed the RedStixx.

One can wonder if moving from one of the worst drawing cities in the Southern League to a city that has lost several MiLB teams already, is a good move. The local ballpark, Golden Park in Columbus is being renovated for the 2025 season. it is not clear if this is a temporary solution or that Golden Park will remain the team’s home base.

In 2023, 162,862 fans passed the turnstiles. Only the Biloxi Shuckers dit worse with 158,586 fans.
