Earlier this year, you could read about the cooperation between the above-mentioned clubs and the intention to expand that cooperation at the level of youth teams. The other day, Herons announced through its Facebook page, the cooperation has ended.
According to the post, the cooperation between the two clubs is impossible for the eerste klasse (second-tier league) for the 2023 season. With deep regret, there was a unanimous vote to withdraw the combination team from the eerste klasse. The flagship teams of both clubs will continue in their own way.
According to interim manager Eelco Jansen, there are two reasons for the decision. First: several older players decided to call it quits, and it appears to be hard to find the proper replacements. Eelco Jansen made clear, when he took over from Mitchell Berghmans, that he would only be interim manager and that the combination team had to look for a new manager for the 2023 season. Also in that area, the team couldn’t find a good fit.
With the cooperation ending at the level of the flagship team in the eerste klasse discontinued, the other part of Mitchell Berghmans’ plan, a cooperation at the level of various youth teams is not necessary anymore. The cooperation at that level would have been a next step in the development of a stable and consistent combination-team. But now this part of the plan is not executed either, it doesn’t mean both clubs cannot look for a cooperation like that in the future, said Herons’ chairman Robin Verburg.
Herons will continue in the tweede klasse (third-tier league).
