The Coastal Plains League champions Savannah Bananas have been challenged by the Kansas City Monarchs to face them in a Banana ball showdown in Kansas City as part of the 2022 Banana World Tour.
It is nothing more than a US tour but nevertheless, the Savannah Bananas will tour the United States and visit the following cities: Chicago, Columbus GA, Mobile, Kansas City, Durham, Birmingham, Montgomery, West Palm Beach, Daytona Beach, and Charleston.
The Kansas City Monarchs are playing in the American Association and have challenged the Bananas to play their (Bananas) brand of baseball in Kansas City.
In addition to the cast of characters, dancers, performers, mascots, and musicians, the Bananas are bringing their own twist of baseball to Legends Field. Banana Ball is a fast-paced, action-packed style of baseball with rules that include no bunting, no walks, a two-hour time limit, fans catching foul balls for outs, batters stealing first base, and a one-on-one tiebreaker showdown at the end of the game. Banana Ball has been featured in stories on ESPN, Baseball America, Wall Street Journal, the Boston Globe, and more.
The brand of baseball the Bananas are playing is more like a circus act but the fans love it. Players interact with the fans and during the game there is plenty of entertainment, also by the players.
The team was established in 2016 and since 2017 the team has sold out every game. In fact the team is working with a waiting list that contains 10,000 (!) persons.
