Jurickson Profar to A’s as part of a three-way deal

Curaçao native Jurickson Profar is not a Texas Ranger anymore. The 25-year old was part of a three-way deal between the Texas Rangers, the Oakland Athletics and the Tampa Bay Rays.

Profar, who has been injury prone during his career as he missed most of the 2014 and 2015 season due to a nagging injury that eventually led to surgery to his right shoulder.

In today’s trade, the Rangers will acquire Double-A left-handed starter Brock Burke and Minor League relievers Kyle Bird and Yoel Espinal from the Rays and Double-A shortstop Eli White from the Athletics. Texas will also get international bonus money from the A’s. The Rays, on their turn, get the 38th pick in the 2019 Draft, right-handed reliever Emilio Pagan from the Athletics and Minor League pitcher Rollie Lacy from the Rangers. Lacy was one of three players acquired from the Cubs for Cole Hamels this past July.

Profar appeared in 146 games this past season and hit .254 with a .335 on-base percentage and a .458 slugging percentage. He broke into the majors in 2012, two years after his first steps in professional baseball, when he appeared in nine games in which he had seventeen at-bats and a .176 batting average.

Even though Profar’s defense is outstanding, he never hit above .260. Last years .254 was the highest BA of his career so far.
