Update on Dutchie prospects in top 50 lists

A few days ago the Dutch Baseball Hangout posted an overview of players of the Dutch Kingdom who were ranked in the top 50 prospect lists of the organization they are playing for. Here is an update on that list.

Isranel (Izzy) Wilson
This 19-year old talent from St. Maarten (St. Martin) is playing in the organization of the Isranel WilsonAtlanta Braves and is ranked 32nd on the Braves’ top 50 prospects list. Izzy made his first steps in professional baseball in 2015 when he played for the Gulf Coast League Braves. In that season it was clear he had to get used to professional baseball and wooden bats (likely) as he hit a modest .222 in 48 games. On the defensive side, the outfielder committed 8 errors in 42 games, resulting in a fielding percentage of .900. In 2016, Izzy was promoted to Advanced Rookie level. In 38 games with the Danville Braves (Appalachian League), his batting averaged dipped below .200 (.192). But his defense improved tremendously as he committed only one in 36 games (.989).
Last season, he was promoted to the Rome Braves (A Full Season Sally League) after he played 17 with Danville. With Rome, he committed 1 error in 13 games and improved his batting average to .262. According to prospects1500.com, his power and his big arm are his signature tools. If he can work on his swing he can become an exciting player.

Raysheandall Michel
Another player from the Dutch overseas territories is Curaçaoan Raysheandall Michel, Afbeeldingsresultaat voor Raysheandall Michel baseballwho is ranked 47th in the Braves prospect top 50 list. The 20-year old made his debut in professional baseball with the DSL Braves in 2015. In 2016 he was promoted to the Gulf Coast League. After 5 games in the Gulf Coast League in 2017, Raysheandall was promoted to the Danville Braves. Despite playing at a higher level, his batting average skyrocketed from .227 in the GCL to .326 in the Appalachian League. Raysheandall is hitting light, but he has clubbed several doubles last year. Despite lacking power, he may be a double/stolen base thread in the future. Next to his speed, he has a rifle arm. In 2017 Raysheandall was ranked 65th, so even though he has a long way to go, his star is rising.

Eugene Helder
The 21-year old Aruban Eugene Helder is ranked 47th in the Mariners prospect top 50. Afbeeldingsresultaat voor Eugene HelderAfter spending most of last season with extended spring training and the Everett AquaSox, Helder was promoted to AAA Tacoma out of the blue. Sure his .304 batting average in 70 games and his 14 doubles and 5 triples were impressive, but you may wonder if that was good enough to skip three levels. Nevertheless, he collected 3 hits in 18 at-bats (.167) with a triple. Perhaps he has to bring down the number of strikeouts as he was fanned 44 times in 70 games at Everett last year. With the AquaSox, Helder has played all infield positions and committed just 9 errors in 62 games combined. He also played 12 games in the outfield where he committed one miscue. As he played six of seven fielding positions, it starts to look like that the M’s don’t really know what to do with him, even though he is stated as a third base prospect.
