Meulens extends contract with Giants

Manager of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and hitting coach of the San Francisco Giants has extended his contract with the Northern Californian team. Meulens will stay with the staff of manager Bruce Bochy for another two years.

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor hensley meulensThe former player of the New York Yankees and the Dutch national team (with the 2000 Olympics in Sydney) will be the manager of the Dutch national team with the upcoming World Baseball Classic.

With the Giants, Meulens won three World Series Rings (2010, 2012 and 2014).

In his career as a player, Bambam also played for the Montreal Expos and the Arizona Diamondbacks after he returned from Japan, where he played for the Chiba Lotte Marines (1994) and the Yakult Swallows (1995+1996), with whom he won the NPB title in 1995. In the fall of his career, Meulens also played for the Independent Newark Bears and in the Mexican League.

Meulens and team Kingdom of the Netherlands will play their first game of the WBC on March 7 against Korea in the Gocheok Skydome in Seoul.

Recently it was announced that Meulens added Hall of Famer Bert Blyleven to his WBC staff. Next to Blyleven and Meulens, Andruw Jones is the third former MLB player in the staff of team Kingdom of the Netherlands.
