Munich-Haar Disciples  4  –  5  Draci Brno

While the Munich-Haar Disciples aren’t doing very well in the German competition and lost both ELB games vs Regensburg (after Regensburg lost one game vs Draci Brno), one would expect that Draci Brno would be no match for the Munich-Haar Disciples. But in this game, nothing looked like that.

In the first two innings both pitchers kept the opponent in check by retiring the side, but in the third inning the score would be opened when Ruben Manriquez got on base on an error by Draci third baseman Toma Polansky. Manriquez advanced to second on a 4-3 ground out, hit by Klaus Nicolici. Richard Klijn’s single put runners on the corners before William Thorp laid down a sacrifice bunt to drive in Manriquez and to advance Klijn to second base.

In the fifth inning Munich-Haar would extend their score with another run when Ty Eriksen scored from third base after he got on base on a single, advanced to second on a 5-3 groundout hit by Ruben Manriquez and moved to third on a passed ball.

But the offense of the Disciples did not stop there. In the sixt inning they would walk away to 4-0. With the bases loaded Josh Petersen singled to drive in William Thorp from third, followed by another run scored by Simon Lechner on a 4-3 ground out hit by Mitch Stephan.

In the meantime Munich-Haar Disciples pitcher DJ. Jauss cruised through the first seven innings as he struck out three and gave up a walk and five hits. Except for the third inning and the fifth inning, Jauss retired the side in all innings that he was on the mound.
In the eighth inning Jauss  recorded two quick outs before he gave up a lead off walk and a fly ball single to left field before Petr Cech hit the ball towards the shortstop Ziegler who made the out at second base for the final out of the inning. But once again Draci Brno didn’t get passed second base.

In the bottom of the ninth after the Disciples had turned a double play, Draci started to hit DJ Jauss. Michal Ondra reached on a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Alexander Derhak then came through with a single that drove in Michal Ondra for the first run for Draci Brno. Jauss had more trouble to find the strike zone as he gave up two consecutive walks to load the bases, followed by a single hit  by Pavel Budsky that brought Brno within a run of Munich-Haar. This was the sign for the Disciples to replace Jauss with Gregory Hendrix.  But Hendrix could not hold on to the lead as he gave up a walk off double to Premek Chroust, who hit the ball to the opposite field (left field) to drive in two runs.

Gregory Hendrix took the loss after facing only one hitter. Jakub Izold earned the win after he pitched three innings in relief. Izold kept the Disciples in check fairly well as he gave up only one hit and struck out two.

Premek Chroust was the best hitter for Draci Brno as he collected three hits out of five at bats with a double and two runs batted in.

William Thorp, Klaus Nicolici and Richard Klijn all went 1 for 3.
