The newest team in the Dutch Hoofdklasse, De Glaskoning Twins, has struck a deal with former Rakuten Golden Eagles and Hanshin Tigers pitcher Keiji Uezono in a very surprising move.
The 32-year old relief pitcher pitched for the Hanshin Tigers from 2007 through 2011. In 2007 he won the Central League’s rookie of the year award. From 2012 through 2014 he played for the Rakuten Golden Eagles, winning the NPB crown with the team in 2014. For the biggest part of his career, Keiji spent time in the Ni-Gun teams (farm teams) of the Tigers and the Golden Eagles.
In the 2015/2016 season, Uezono signed a deal with the Sydney Blue Sox for whom he pitched six games (10.1 innings) in which he posted a low 1.74 ERA and kept his opponents to a batting average of .211. In the 10.1 innings that he was on the mound, Keiji gave up only two runs, struck out fifteen and posted a WHIP of less than one 0.97).
Next to being a part of De Glaskoning Twins, Uezono will also be part of Amsteram Baseball of the Euro League Baseball. If that is not enough, he will also be coaching one of the teams of the Collegiate Baseball League Europe.
