Dutchie Baseball news

There was some news to announced about players from Curacao the other day.

Former Atlanta Braves star, Jair Jurrjens signed a deal with the Uni-President 7-Eleven Lions, of the CPBL.

The 30-year old will be the third player from the Dutch kingdom that will spend time with the club from Taiwan. Rob Cordemans pitched for the club in 2007 and Shairon Martis, the pitcher that still holds the record for pitching the only no-hitter in WBC history, played for the club in 2014.

Jurrjens has (parts of ) eight MLB seasons under his belt. He debuted with the Braves in 2007. His last performance at MLB level was in 2014 as he started two games for the Colorado Rockies. In his first start for that club in Denver, he was bothered by altitude sickness.

The Uni-President 7-Eleven Lions are one of the most successful clubs in the Taiwanese CPBL as they won nine championships (1991, 1995, 1996, 2000, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011 and 2013).

Another player from the Dutch kingdom, Curacao to be exact, Shairon Martis, has re-signed with the independent Lincoln SaltDogs of the American Association.
Martis joined the team in the course of last season and put up some nice numbers.
He pitched seventeen games for the team, mainly as a starter and posted a 3.73 ERA with 79 Ks and six victories.

With the choice of re-joining the SaltDogs, Martis will remain team mates with another player from the Dutch kingdom: Curt Smith.
