Dutch add Calvin Maduro to coaching staff for Premier 12 tournament

The KNBSB (the Royal Dutch Baseball and Softball Federation) announced today in a press release that former MLB pitcher Calvin Maduro has been added to the coaching staff of the Dutch Kingdom team for the Premier 12 tournament. Maduro will serve as the team’s bullpen coach.

The 41-year old Aruban native played at several minor league levels between 1996 and 2006 and played parts of seasaons in the Bigs.  He played for the organizations of the Orioles, the Phillies, the Yankees and the Dodgers. In
1996 he debuted with the Phillies. He made four appearances with the team, two as a starter. In that short stint, he had a 0-1 record with a 3.52 ERA. In the next season he started fifeen games for the Phillies and had two relief appearances. He won three games and lost seven and posted a 7.23 ERA.
In parts of 2000, 2001 and 2002, he played for the Baltimore Orioles. In those three seasons he appeared in 49 games in which he posted a 7-13 record. His lifetime ERA in the Majors is 5.78.

In 2003, he was knighted toghether with Eugen Kingsale and Sidney Ponson because of their merits for Dutch baseball

Maduro also played for the independent Newark Bears, back then at AAA level of the Atlantic League.

In 2004 he debuted with HCAW from Bussum in the Dutch Hoofdklasse. During the 2006 play offs, he wore the jersey of DOOR Neptunus from Rotterdam. Also in 2006 he joined the Dutch team for the inaugural World Baseball Classic. 

After his playing career he served three seasons (2005 – 2008)  as pitching coach of the Aberdeen Ironbirds (New York-Penn League). Later he spent two more seasons with the GCL Orioles as their pitching coach, before becoming scout for the Orioles, something that he still is nowadays.
