European Cup 2015: Results of day two from Rotterdam and Paris

Due to other obligations, I will focus on the Dutch teams.

The opening game of day two in Paris was a big one, between T&A San Marino and L&D Amsterdam Pirates.  UnipolSai Bologna had an easy one vs Brest Zubrs and another exciting game was scheduled for the night between Solingen Alligators and PUC.

T&A San Marino @ L&D Amsterdam Pirates  0 – 6

In today’s game Rob Cordemans dominated the San Marino lineup.  Cordemans didn ‘t start well as he threw a strikeout/wildpitch at the opening hitter Jack Santora, who reached first base on the wild pitch. But then Cordemans recovered and retired two men in a row before he gave up a single to Jaro Ramos, that allowed Santora to advance to third base. But then Joseph Mazzuca hit into a force out at second to end the inning.  In the next three innings, Cordemans was perfect, retiring the nine hitters that he faced. After the first inning, San Marino only had a runner at third base in the eighth inning, but they could not could not cash in.
After a scoreless first inning, Pirates scored a run in the second, a run in the third and a run in the fourth inning. The big inning came in the eighth.  Remco Draijer led off the eighth with a walk. After Draijer stole second, Bas Nooij also drew a walk. This was the sign to replace relief pitcher Yovani D’Amico. Both runners advanced a base as Jesse Aussems laid down a sacrifice bunt, going out at first base on a 5-4 play. As Rashid Gerard singled through the left side of the infield, Remco Draijer scored and Bas Nooij advanced to third. After Linoy Croes drew a walk and loaded the bases, Roelie Henrique hit is only basehit of the game. But it was a very important one as it drove in two more runs to reach the final score of 0-6.
It won’t come as a surprise that Rob Cordemans earned the win. In nine innings he allowed six hits, walked two and fanned five. Carlos Teran lasted 5.2 innings and took the loss as he allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits in 5.2 innings. He also walked three and struck out three. Jesse Aussems earned the honor of being the best hitter for L&D Amsterdam Pirates. He went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored.

In Rotterdam Curacao Neptunus would take on Draci Brno.  A.S.D. Rimini Pirates would have an easy one vs KNTU Elizavetgrad. And the Heidenheim Heidekoepfe would take on Templiers de Senart.

Curacao Neptunus @ Draci Brno   6 – 1

Perhaps this win by Neptunus looked easier than it really was.  The defense of the team was solid, the five run margin of the victory seemed to be okay, but it could have been a lot more.  In the seventh inning, the club from Rotterdam had the bases loaded with one out but failed to cash in.  In the sixth inning there was a similar situation, only with no outs. A 6-3 ground out by Raily Legito drove in Benjamin Dille, but that was about it.
Neptunus scored six runs and they all came in one run innings.  Gianison Boekhoudt was very clutch last night. He went 3 for 4 and drove in three of the six runs that Neptunus scored.
The sole run that Draci Brno scored came in the fourth inning as Martin Schneider doubled down the left field line and scored on Premek Chroust’s single.
Orlando Yntema lasted 5.1 innings for the win. He allowed one run on three hits, walked two and fanned five. Michal Sobotka took the loss after 6.1 innings. He allowed five runs on twelve hits and walked three.
