Yankees and Dutchies in Spring Training, Saturday March 21

Runs did not come cheap in this game between the Astros and the Yankees. The Astros scored two runs in the top of the first with Michael Pineda on the mound when Chris Carter hit a two run homerun. Pineda settled down and allowed one more hit and fanned six in total. He lasted 3.2 innings. Didi Gregorius raised his batting average to .296 with a single out of two at bats. After trailing the entire game, the Yankees put runners on first and second in the bottom of the ninth. Then with a double, Eddy Rodriguez drove in two runs and avanced to third on the throwing error by left fielder Andrew Aplin. The winning run was driven in by Slade Cave on a sac fly to right field.

Jonathan Schoop went 1 for 3 with a single, a walk a strike out and a run scored.  Schoop also made a very nice defensive play when Aaron Hicks hit a high chopper over the mound and he ran all the way behind second base to field the ball. With a turning jump he threw the ball towards first for the out. The O’s beat the Twins 5-3.

Andrelton Simmons did not play for the Braves vs Washington, but Ozhaino Albies entered the game as a defensive substitute in the top of the eighth inning. In the ninth Albies fielded the ball hit by Sandy Leon and threw it towards first for a 6-3 out. The Braves won 5-2.

Once again the Rangers were no match for the Dodgers: 11-3. Shawn Zarraga singled in a pinch hit appearance and eventually scored the eleventh run for Los Angeles and raised his batting average to .500.
