The new baseball complex on Curacao seems to be a big thing
My blog post about th
e new baseball complex on Curacao has gotten many hits the last couple of days. It has been shared on Facebook over a thousand times. Even the Prime Minister of the island, Ivar Asjes, shared it. Now even the local newspaper Antilliaans dagblad is mentioning the new project, referring to this blog.
Is it the facility itself which attracts the most attention or is it the news about the Curacao Summer League?
Even though nothing can be found about this new league on the internet, it is metioned on the website of International Baseball Partners.
Since the relationship between Venezuela and the USA has been cooled off and now new visa rules make it harder for US citizens to enter the country it makes sense that the Venezuelan Summer League will dissolve. Like I wrote, a scout of the Houston Astros was denied access to the country because of these new visa regulations. The Venezuelan Embassy website in the US advices to acquire a visa three months before travelling to the country. This hinders MLB clubs in running their scouting business.
Looking to this development, it makes sense to say that the Curacao Summer League will replace the VSL. Again, there is nothing to be found on the net about this. This is pure speculation from my side. But when you think about it, it is a no brainer: 1+1=2. Why else are they building a huge complex like this? Besides that, several MLB clubs have investigated the possibility of estabilishing a baseball academy on Curacao.
I would say: “Do the math”
